Philippines construction giant Megaworld Corporation has announced plans to develop a new Php15 billion (US$262 million) “integrated lifestyle community” in Manila that will include a casino complex.
Megaworld is a subsidiary of Alliance Global Group, which is majority owner of Entertainment City IR Newport World Resorts.
According to information released by the company this week, Megaworld’s latest development will be called Winford Resort. Located near the historic Chinatown on a property within the San Lazaro Tourism and Business Park, the three-hectare development will feature a mix of residential condominiums, hotels, and commercial developments with a casino complex.
The development is to be inspired by ‘Old Manila’ with structural designs reminiscent of the pre-war era, Megaworld said, while the buildings will be characterized by “rich aesthetics, with intricate details of French Renaissance, Neo-Classical, and Art Deco architecture.”
The development is expected to be completed by 2028.
“This commitment to revive the old beauty of Manila will be apparent in the designs of the commercial developments of this community,” said Wilson Sy, First Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing for Megaworld Manila.
“The beautiful architecture of the pre-war years will be seen in the Promenade, which is envisioned to become a major tourism destination in this side of Manila.”
Megaworld did not provide any other details on the casino complex but said the development is surrounded by major educational institutions such as the University of Sto. Tomas, Far Eastern University, San Beda University, University of the East, Centro Escolar University and other colleges and universities.
“Our new development is in a strategic location within the City of Manila. It is not only close to schools, but also to hospitals and public transport, such as the LRT,” said Sy.
A 17-storey residential condominium tower called One Crown Suites will form part of the township, offering 389 units plus other facilities.
Megaworld is already developing the expansive Westside City Resorts World in Manila’s Entertainment City and owns 34% of Suntrust Resort Holdings, which is developing a US$1 billion casino-hotel as part of the Westside City project.
