Okada Manila operator names reformed Board of Directors, Kazuo Okada colleagues not welcome

Okada Manila operator Tiger Resort, Leisure & Entertainment Inc (TRLEI), now controlled by the TRAL-approved side of the intra-corporate dispute for control of the Manila integrated resort, has announced its list of approved board members ahead of a Board of Directors meeting planned for today (Wednesday).

The new board, which has been approved by gaming regulator PAGCOR following an order from the Department of Justice last week for the opposing Kazuo Okada-led faction to vacate the premises, sees a number of former board members reinstated, including President and CEO Byron Yip and Mr Okada’s ex-wife Tokako Okada.

Also on the board are Kenshi Asano, Hajime Tokuda, Hans Van Der Sande, Toji Takeuchi, James Lorenzana, Kenji Sugiyama and Mitsukazu Nakata, while Kazuo Okada retains a seat as per PAGCOR’s directive. This follows the issuance of a Status Quo Ante Order (SQAO) by the Philippines Supreme Court in early May directing the TRLEI board be restored to its composition in 2017, before the dispute between Universal and Mr Okada that led to him being frozen out. It was this SQAO that had prompted Mr Okada’s representatives to seize control of Okada Manila on 31 May, before it was reclaimed last Friday.

While Mr Okada retains his board seat, TRLEI made it clear that his representatives will not be allowed entrance to the Okada Manila property, namely Antonio O. Cojuangco, Dindo A. Espeleta, Maximo Modesto Joel C. Flores, Tetsuya Yokota and Hiroshi Kawamura.

“The TRLEI Board looks forward to the full resumption of normality at Okada Manila, and looks forward to Mr Kazuo Okada’s participation in the scheduled Board Meeting in compliance with the SQAO and PAGCOR order,” it said.
