Grand Korea Leisure sees casino sales rise 46% month-on-month in June


South Korean foreigner-only casino operator Grand Korea Leisure enjoyed a significant boost in casino sales in June, rising 45.6% month-on-month and 18.7% year-on-year to KRW14.82 billion (US$13.1 million).

The improvement comes three months after GKL re-opened its three casinos – Gangnam COEX and Gangbuk, Millenium Seoul Hilton in Seoul, and Seven Luck Casino Busan Lotte – in March after being forced to close late last year due to COVID-19.

June’s results included a 60.6% month-on-month increase in table game sales to KRW13.28 billion (US$11.7 million) compared with a 19.9% fall in machine sales to KRW1.54 billion (US$1.4 million).

Total drop increased 17.7% on a monthly basis to KRW98.37 billion (US$87.0 million) but was down 69.5% year-on-year for the first six months of 2021 combined to KRW298.20 billion (US$263.8 million).

Casino revenue for the first six months of 2021 are down 69.7% year-on-year to KRW40.29 billion (US$35.6 million), with table game sales down 71.0% to KRW34.21 billion (US$30.3 million) and machine sales down 59.3% to KRW6.08 billion (US$5.4 million).

GKL’s improved results for June come a day after fellow foreigner-only casino operator Paradise Co reported a 16.1% month-on-month increase in casino sales in June to KRW16.05 billion (US$14.2 million).
