Osaka IR & Inbound Business Seminar canceled due to COVID-19

An “IR & Inbound Business Seminar” scheduled to be held on 19 January, and co-sponsored by the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has been canceled.

The setback comes after Osaka prefecture and city extended their request for citizens to refrain from leaving their house while the area is in “red stage” of Japan’s state of emergency during a meeting in the COVID-19 response headquarters last week.

Osaka prefecture/city often holds seminars for local businesses that are leaders in the regional economy to promote understanding of the IR project, given that it’s hoped an IR would revitalize the economy and increase business opportunity.

The seminar was originally scheduled to host sessions on the “Current status of tourism promotion at the Osaka Convention and Tourism Bureau and future inbound development”, “Business Opportunities With/After COVID-19” and “Goals if an Osaka IR. Tetsuya Nakamura, General Manager of Corporate Planning Office, Corporate Planning Office, Osaka Covid-19 & Tourism Bureau and Professor Kazuo Takahashi of Kinki University Faculty of Business Administration were to be the key speakers.

As COVID-19 continues to spread, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced on 13 January that in addition to the Tokyo metropolitan area and surrounding three prefectures having entered a state of emergency on 7 January, seven additional prefectures would be placed in the state of emergency, including Osaka. The order is scheduled to last until 7 February.
