Sheraton Grand Macao to no longer be used as quarantine hotel

For the second time in four months, Sheraton Grand Macao will complete its mission as one the SAR’s designated quarantine hotels as the number of people returning to Macau from overseas gradually falls.

The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has opted not to assign any more residents returning home from overseas to stay in Sheraton Grand Macao as of mid-August. The hotel was first named as a quarantine hotel in late March, then removed from the list less than a month later before being called upon again in June. It had made up to 2,000 rooms available.

However, the MGTO has decided instead to utilize the smaller, 250-room Golden Crown China Hotel to settle people who need to be quarantined as of 1 August.

All remaining quarantine guests currently staying at Sheraton Grand Macao are expected to depart before 14 August at which time the hotel will be fully disinfected and cleaned.

The Pousada Marina Infante is still in use as Macau’s other remaining quarantine hotel.

The removal of Sheraton Grand Macao from the list of quarantine hotels comes as authorities gradually ease border restrictions between Macau and Guangdong Province, with suggestions circulating that the highly-anticipated Individual Visit Scheme could be reinstated by the end of August.

There are currently no active cases of COVID-19 in Macau.
